in justice

the miscarriage of justice sends the altruist down a rabbit hole of wondering: how is this possible? why did this happen? what good is good? it makes us feel like all we care about & advocate for are in vain. it makes the work we do seem unimportant & the equity we desire seem unattainable. it invokes a hopelessness & discouragement that cannot be put in words. how can everything so right be blatantly overlooked for wrong?
when these feelings shut us down and invite us to pause, to be angry, to question, to grieve... do so. let the sting of this process be the burning inspiration needed to keep fighting the battle. let it reset you to keep on going after restful reflection. the alternative is accepting the wrongdoing. the alternative is settling for crumbs. the alternative is conceding to the notion that it’s okay to overlook mistreatments and misfortunes. and who wants to live in a world like that?
sometimes, it may seem like we already do. but the goal is to keep the fire of goodness burning until the ills of this life are smoldering within it. refuse silence. speak truth to power. stand up tall & walk in justice.
this passage is inspired by the unfortunate verdict issued to kyle rittenhouse yesterday… and the many other injustices we face in this world. instances like these are the worst reminders that we do not always get what we deserve in the legal system, but i invite you all to reach for a Power much larger than that of the government, and to hold on to hope. please, never stop believing there are good people and that good things can happen to them. please never get complacent with believing it’s okay for the “bad guys” to “get away” with wrongdoing. please never stop fighting for the right thing. grieve as you must. get mad. ask for and offer support. take all the breaks and rest necessary to recalibrate. but quitting and defeat are not options.
